#RO2019EU / Trade Policy debate in the margin of Romania’s EU Presidency, Copenhagen, 3 June 2019

Monday, 3 June 2019, the Commercial Office of the Romanian Embassy in Copenhagen and the Representation of the European Commission to Denmark organized a trade policy debate in the margin of Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council.


Dan Dinuță, Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN Institutions in Geneva, discussed the current status of the multilateral negotiations in the WTO, underlining the importance of identifying a common solution for the functioning of the DSB/AB. Other topics were the plurilateral innitiatives for fishing, e-commerce, trade facilitation and the work platform for micro-enterprises and SMEs, with a view to delievering concrete results during the Ministerial Conference in Nur-Sultan (8-11 of June 2020).


The Commission’s representative, Torbjorn Olausson, reviewed the on-goind trade negotiations between the EU and third partners – Mercosur, Australia, New Zeeland, Chile, etc. and ackonwledged the uncertainty in the international trade following the recent positions of the US in trade negotiations.


Peter Kirkegaard, senior analyst of the Confederation of Danish Industries, mentioned the challenges for Danish companies of the international context, specifically EU - US trade relations, Brexit, US - China trade dispute etc.
