#RO2019EU / The third working lunch in Copenhagen for the EU ambassadors and candidate countries, in the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU

On 11 April 2019, H.E. Mr Alexandru Grădinar, Ambassador of Romania in Denmark, hosted a third working lunch for the ambassadors of the EU member states and candidate countries in the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The ambassadors had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Mr Anders Samuelsen, the Danish minister of foreign affairs.

Minister Samuelsen touched upon the current priorities on the EU agenda, such as Brexit, the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027, the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and climate change. He also presented Denmark’s perspectives upon the current international context, which is challenged by multiple reconfigurations at the bilateral level and within the main multilateral formats and organisations.

Referring to Romania’s immediate neighborhood, the Danish official acknowledged the benefits that the Eastern Partnership brought in the last ten years to both the EU and its six partner states. He also highlighted the relevance to the EU of a stable Western Balkans region and expressed satisfaction towards the accession agreement which NATO and North Macedonia have recently signed. Denmark is the first country in Western Europe to have ratified the document.
